Ries,
Thanks! I thought that was the right track. I tried a sample piece but I was uncertain I could reproduce it over a large area.

I have bought some Walters Abrasives drum scothbrite like the unitec wheels, with the exception that they screw onto a std. side grinder.

As usual I think I was making it harder than it should be.....
