I made a hold down out of an old tire iron that I bent
into a traditional hold down in the pritchel hole. The
foot was shaped a bit so that it will straddle shaped
metal. I rehardened it after shaping.
I have found it surprisingly effective for holding
work. I lay the work on the anvil, swing the hold down
over it and hit the hold down down into the pritchell
hole. It's fast and accurate and the release is simply
to knock the hold down up out of the hole from the
bottom.
I had tried a number of different things, but this
traditional approach was by far the best.
