Maybe you should change your priorties then. There is plenty of tool steel 
available free if you will "lower" yourself enough to  ask.
But then you probably wouldn't go dumpster diving either, huh.?

Rob gunther got a 48 rockwell all the way through a 1" bar, I'd say the 
quench goes pretty deep.  there are some of us here who have a forging 
budget of about $25/week, because it is a hobby, so 'good steel lying 
around' does not describe my shop.
