Mark:  A 155 will weld 1/4" readily.  You will likely use your highest power
setting.  Since flux core requires reversed polarity from gas wire, some
argue that flux cored wire penetrates better.  Test you weld for penetration
by looking for bead discoloration on the side of the plate opposite the
bead.
