As long as you realize that social media monitoring may not always get your
report, that's great. Each office uses social media differently. Some are
more robust in their social media use than others.

For example, during the last event here, one Facebook user asked one of the
four NWS offices that covers Oklahoma for information. It was the wrong
office. I don't know if there was ever an answer other than my message to
follow the office that served the area.

Check http://kc5fm.blogspot.com/ for a post today about social media and
weather, as it related to a social media warning drill.

In Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Virtual Operations Support Team is called upon to
assist in weather events. See http://vosg.us/active-vosts/ for other teams
and how VOST works in all disasters.

At http://t.co/cTcTxzrZVl one will see credit for the ""first documented
occurrence of victim retrieval via twitter advanced search" while, not
noticed, was the team's first use of Pinterest for documentation of the
storm.

OKVOST members are NOT all hams (many are) but all are Skywarn trained.

It would be interesting to hear how other Skywarn programs use social media
for operations. For example, the VOIPWX net (http://www.voipwx.net) uses
Facebook and Twitter for team building and public information (@VOIPWXnet
on both)

Hope that helps.
