The three tube Apollo was seen in an ad or publication, but always
struck me as an initial engineering prototype that was economized a
bit for production. Looks pretty much the same externally. Sort of the
converse of the early ad for the Halli SX-73 in cabinet that looked
quite different than the final product.
As a kid at the time, I have fond memories of those 'one step from the
trash' days of old gear. I hauled a lot of stuff home for free or next
to nothing thanks to the new generation of plastic radios. :D
