Hi Doug,

Thank you for taking on this responsibility. My name
is Ken Stringham and you see my call is AE1X. This is
not my original call, though. I have been licensed
since 1972. My original call was WA1PYZ. I started out
my career while attending college at Wentworth
Institute where I was studying electronics. I joined
W1PTC to get into real radio. At that time, I was
using CB. The rest is history.

I have been a Clegg enthusiast for many years. I got
my first brand new in 1978 (I think). I got an FM27B
S/N 3900 and had a ball with it until it was stolen
while I was working the Blizzard of '78 here in
Attleboro. Someone lifted it from the EOC while was
ill and I didn't miss for some time because I figured
was locked away safely in a vault, but alas it was
gone and only an old GE Lo-Band FM portable was left
untouched.

I had a Clegg 22er for many years. I designed and
assembled a number of external varactor modulators so
I could use it with all the 2mtr repeaters around
here. I employed slope detection to recover the audio
from the received signal. To boost the sensitivity, I
employed a Dual Gate MOSFET pre-amplifier. The system
worked great and installed the modulators on a number
of Gonset sets as well in the city's EOC here.

I now have two (2) rigs. I have an FM27B again and
I've added an FM-DX as well. I have been fortunate
enough to work two (2) DX stations, one in western CT
about 109 miles from Attleboro, MA another in
Oceanside NJ. The antenna is a discone up about 30' in
the air on the top of my two (2) tenement home.

I have an extensive background electronics and
software. Right now I'm working as a Senior
Engineering Technician after 13 years as a software
engineer. I was the victim of Offshoring on 7-Feb-2003
and it appears I will never be able to work in
software again. Alas, I miss it, but being on the
bench again is not so bad!

Regards...

Ken, AE1X
