Hi Scott,

Thank you for your answer.

I fully agree with you : I'm probably in a very small minority ;-)

Moreover, here's my opinion. Modern TRX have hundreds of functions and
memories. Having to learn how to configure them through the limited user
interface (a rotary knob, some buttons, and a tiny screen), and doing
that by hand, is, in my opinion, pretty stupid in 2016 ! I'd like to do
all that on my 24" wide screen at home, or on my 8" Android tablet and
my Raspberry Pi in my car.

Also, TRX built for "mobile" operations are often used in several other
situations than a car, due to their tiny package and versatility. Here
are some examples of things I already did with "mobiles" :
- a VHF/UHF FM base, at home
- an interconnected repeater system over all my island
- an automated system for remote control
- a mixed usage (ham radio and professional 150 MHz radio)
- a multipurpose radio in an helicopter

I agree with you about the additional cost of multiple features
everybody do not necessarly need. Here again, I think equipment
manufacturers should update their skills and technologies to the 21th
century ;-) Nowadays, most of the "advanced" features are only software.
In the same way we can buy "hardware" options (additional MIC,
speakers...), it would be interesting to be able to buy "software"
options : Fusion, APRS, GPS, computer-control, etc...

Then, for my particular needs, I wouldn't buy the "fusion" or "GPS"
options, but I would definitely buy the "computer-control" !
