[Yaesu] quadra amp question

thanks to all who replied to my earlier post reguarding quadra amp. one post indicated vp-1000 power supply has to be on even if you do not need amp.? does ant #1 which is default not provide thru-put.? doesnt seem like you would burn up electricity when amp is not needed
