Hi Jim,
 
Correct, the VP-1000 PSU must be powered up to keep the ANT1 selection relay
operated and maintain the receive signal path. This is normal and by design.
The VP-1000 standby power consumption is very low.
 
As my default operating configuration is at 1 kW (for 10 dB minimum fade
margin), I do not find this inconvenient.

thanks to all who replied to my earlier post regarding quadra amp. one post
indicated vp-1000 power supply has to be on even if you do not need amp.?
does ant #1 which is default not provide thru-put.? doesn't seem like you
would burn up electricity when amp is not needed
