Also consider the FT-900/AT (and the FT-900/CAT version with a Collins 
filter). It is a repackaged FT-890 in the same physical size chassis, 
but with the following enhancements:
    - A detachable front panel (requires a separation kit [cable and 
bracket]).
    - Much better back lit LCD display, which can be seen clearly in any 
lighting condition.
    - Direct band-selection buttons.

The 900 is a great rig for base and mobile/portable use.
