[Yaesu] WTB: bnc satellite antenna for Garmin GPS-AVD55

Satellite users,

I'm interested in finding a replacement antenna for my Garmin AVD55
GPS handheld receiver.

The only replacement available from Garmin is a mechanically small
one that has only ~1/8 the cross-section of the original.

Consequently, I am looking for a better antenna, and suspect that
the same antennae used for UHF satellite voice communications would
work better than Garmin's replacement.

Unfamiliar with satellite voice communications (beyond use of Oscar
occasionally years ago), I would appreciate any pointers on
standard satellite antenna impedences and other interface issues,
as well as good sources.
