That certainly can happen.  I bought my '920 in May of 2000, brand new,
from a small local dealer.  It wound up being a 7K, which made me a bit
upset, but I figured with a 1 year warranty I could fix it if need be.
After 3.5 years I'm happy to say that my '920 exhibited none of the
problems the early production runs exhibited.

I've had excellent results with the INRAD filters.  In general they have
better specs than the factory options and usually are priced about the
same.
