Just wanted to add my $.02-

INRAD is the company where I buy all my filters. In most cases (not all)
the specs of their filters exceed the original equipment filters. Where
there is a question, you can call them and ask for George. He will tell you
whether it is worth your while to use their filters vs. a stock filter.
Generally, though, their filters are less expensive for the same or better
specs.

When they first bought the business from the people in FL, I ordered a
filter for the IC-706. It would not physically fit, and they told me that
they would refund the cost. Later they found that they could not produce a
superior filter to the stock filter in that size case (in actuality, they
would have had to go to the same vendor that produced the filters for ICOM,
and that vendor did not want ICOM to come back at them for working with a
third party) so they no longer produce filters for the IC-706 (although I
haven't checked recently!). Since then, when I owned an FT-1000D, I bought
two filters from them to replace the stock filters, I believe the 1.9 kHz
SSB filter and one other. They told me that one of the other filters was
equal to the performance of the stock filter. In addition, I have added
their filters to my FT-857.

They are good people, and I check in with them every year at Dayton.
