[Yaesu] Quick Question

Glen, I don't know if you remember my younger son, Dale, who is now K5SR
(Extra).

He learned 26 letters, ten numerals and two punctuation marks in one night!
I gave him a sheet with little phrases to convey the rhythm of each
character and he took it to his room to study. The following evening he
asked me to send the characters so he could hear what they sounded like. I
did so and he could identify every one. We practiced about a week and then I
gave him his Novice code test - parents could do that back then. He copied
100% at a measured 7 wpm.

He ended up 7 months later with his Extra making 100% copy at 20 wpm for 5
minutes at the FCC offices. Age 13 . . .

Shows what wanting something plus determination and a real talent for
learning can do. He hasn't hammed for years now but still knows a little
code. I bet that in one evening I could have him back up to 20 wpm!

Forgive a proud Papa for bragging! But my point is that, as you say, anyone
can learn code that really decides that they want to.

Good to hear from you!

George, W5YR
