Not sure that get a Ft100D is setting your sights
lower. Go read the review of the FT857 on eham.net.
The author of one of them compares all three, and
concludes that the FT100D is probably the best
receiver of them all. When you figure in cost of
accessories, it becomes even a better deal-considering
that you have to pay extra for the CW filter and TCXO
in the FT897, and FT857, and the DSP is also extra in
the FT857.

Along a similar thread-who cares whether the FT100D
will do AM or not? And some say that CW is a dying
mode. Get with the times.
