Two choices:
1. Yaesu FT-900CAT used, $650, SEC 1123 (Radio Shack) Switching Power
Supply, $100, MFJ-969 Antenna Tuner for balanced line, $150 optional, radio
has builtin tuner for 50 ohm line, $100 for used MFJ-984B DSP filter or
MFJ-1026 Noise eliminator.
2. Ten-Tec Scout 555 used with modules for most HF bands, $500, plus the
above accessories. Could add MFJ-945E Mobile Tuner and still be under
budget, and have both base and mobile choices.
(I have all of the above except for noise eliminator and DSP filter, sold my
984s for Timewave DSP-59Y. FT-900 is one base rig and Scout and mobile tuner
have a home in the van.) Hope this is of interest.

recommend for a decent base station, which would include an antenna tuner
[if not in the rig itself] radio power supply and something for the hash
sound. Your comments or suggestions please.
