[Yaesu] Comments on: HF station on a budget

This is what I've been able to put together:

Transceiver - FT-902DM, used US $300-400 (mine was $325)
Tuner - MFJ-949E, used US $75-100 (mine was $78)
Paddles - HamKey, (mine was US $30)
Mike - Shure 522 (mine was US $25)
At $1.00 CAN = $0.65 US, total cost less antenna of between aprx $660 and
$850 CAN.

The FT-902DM is an old hybrid (tube and solidstate) transceiver, which some
here won't like, but except for the antenna tuner it is a complete station.
Puts out a respectable 180W CW and has a built-in keyer, NB, APF, speech
processor, a bunch of other things.  The finals, 6146b's, are not hard to
come by and not to pricy ($10-$15 US for NOS). The trick is finding a good
one as hams tend to hold on to these.  Keep your eyes peeled for a silent
key estate sale.  IMHO it represents an excellent value.  Hope this helps.
