I'll second what Hans said. And I read the statement in the original
poster's message about "new owners buying the company." That's not exactly
correct. Yaesu-Musen is the old name of the company. Their commercial
product line has been under the brand name of Vertex for several years now.
Then about 3 years or so ago they bought Standard. Again, Yaesu bought
Standard.
The name was changed to Vertex-Standard to more closely match their
commercial interests. I believe the Yaesu brand name is only on their
amateur products now.
Anyhow, that said, the stability of the FT-1000D is incredible. The 1000D
has a high stability TCXO frequency reference and it is rock solid. Most
other rigs have only a clock (not temperature compensated). In fact, the
FT-1000 has one TCXO and when the rig is upgraded to the "D" a better one
gets added along with the BPF-2 and the extra filtering.
The FT-1000D is about 12 years old now. There is no way that a rig with a
production life like that and a design as solid would start to go "unstable"
or have problems.
The rig that you might have heard about problems with is the FT-100D. It's
very easy in casual reading to get these mixed up. The FT-100D is the small
mobile HF rig that Yaesu came out with to compete against the IC-706. I am
NOT impressed with the 100D.
Look at the reviews and ask people that own them. The FT-1000D is by far
and away the BEST HF rig that has ever been made, IMHO and in the opinion of
many other people.
