[Yaesu] FT-757 - keying amplifier

I just finished overhauling an AL-80A amp. for a ham friend.
I am going to make up a cable for his FT-990 to key the amplifier; looks =
like a simple connection to pins 3 and 4 on the remote jack will do it. =
He also needs to be able to use his FT-757 with the amp.  I don' t have =
the schematic or the manual for the 757 available; has anyone used the =
757 with an amplifier and keyed the amp. using the transceiver internal =
relay, or is it almost necessary to use an interface ?

I 'll have the schematic later today, and can perhaps answer my own =
question, but any assistance in the meantime would save me a little =
time.
