Hello Hart,

The FT-1000(D) is a very very stable rig! And there are no regular =
problems with the 1000D. Please read the reviews on =
http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/210. I have only one comment and that =
is the speed of the VFO knob; I find the speed somewhat to high. There =
are some modifications on the FT-1000D (please have a look at the =
excellent site of K6JRF; http://pages.prodigy.net/jforgione), but the =
past 15 years have told us that the 1000D is a nearly problemfree rig.

The FT-1000MP (Mark V) is a very different rig. I have one too and I =
have no problems with it. When you read the reviews on =
http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/850, then you read the stories of =
people who have had problems with the Mark V. I think that the quality =
control of Yaesu Vertex is not stable enough.

A very good rig is the FT-1000MP Mark V Field. Please read =
http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/2245. I have no personal experience, =
but reading the reviews and the comments on the newsgroups then this rig =
should be allright.

I use the FT-1000D for SSB. The FT-1000MP Mark V I use for CW and as =
exciter for the linear, because of its Class A ability.

When you use SSB I could recommend you a used FT-1000D! Because of its =
high power (>200 Watts) the need of a linear is not always necessary. =
The second hand price of a good FT-1000D is about $2000. I would suggest =
that you compare this rig with the Mark V Field.

It's not always price, (best) specifications and abilities in choosing a =
rig. Its ergonomics, the 'look and feeling', and the sound of a rig are =
very very important issues too! Which rig gives you the 'warmest =
feeling'?

You are always welcome when you have any further questions or comments.

Good luck and
73! Hans Remeeus.

Hans, thanks for the tip. I have a question for you. I was told that =
the 1000 is not a stable rig and there are numerous problems plaguing =
it, ever since the new owners bought the company. Have you had any =
problems like this with this rig??
