Has anyone else noticed, but it seems to me that the volume pots in my
8100 "taper" the wrong way, as if they're wired in reverse. Symptom is
that the audio comes up very quickly, but as the control is advanced not
much more volume is noticed. Normal audio taper brings the audio up
gradually and then as the control is advanced past halfway the level
comes up dramatically in the last third or so of the rotation.

It was annoying at first, but now I'm used to it. A small amount of
knob movement takes the level from near mute to cab filling audio in my
truck. Comfortable level is with the mark on each knob at 9 O'clock.
At 7 O'clock position the audio is very low, at least low enough to be
mostly covered by raod noise. By the 10 O'clock position the audio is
about as loud as it can get and further rotation has little effect. The
operation is exactly the same for both VFH and UHF.
