W6QIW's comments about 222 MHz as a DX band
are absolutely right!

I've been going on DXpeditions to Utah Pass,
Utah (DM37) since about 1970 and always worked
K6IBY. He was always louder (sometimes much
louder) on 222 than he was on 144 MHz. Last
year I was there again, and K6TSK, N6EQ and
W6CRO were also louder on 222 than on 144.

Either there's a secret resonant reflector for
222 MHz halfway between L.A. and Utah or that's
just a really good DX band. I've also noticed
that signals on the Hawaii tropo path are better
on 222 than on 144 when someone has similar
equipment for the two bands.
