What a mess you had under there. That is a good example of how hams of the
past repaired things. I, for one, can't help but wonder what caused the arc
in the beginning. It doesn't matter now because you are really fixing the
problem, not just repairing the symptom.
I am the second owner of a 500B that has minimal repairs over the years but
I have instituted a few upgrades to prevent what happened to the one you
have. I made sure to remove the filament windings from the sockets and
attach the output to the tubes which helped the modulation since I used plug
in devices. I did he same to the Power Supply for the final and those two
changes made a difference in the clarity of the audio.
