Commonwealth wide weather briefing sent out on behalf of the National
Weather Service – State College office
To: PEIRS Staff, Special Deployment Teams, Lead EPLOs, County 911 and
EMAs
The State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is monitoring a potential
severe weather system that is anticipated to enter the Commonwealth on Friday
night into Saturday, December 18-19, 2015. Please take a few minutes and
read the attached National Weather Service weather briefing for further
details. Please remain alert of changing conditions and ensure your agency
remains available to support the counties and State EOC if needed. Report any
unmet needs or concerns to the State EOC. Highlights and details are
listed below.
*Overview:
Significant Lake effect snow accumulation will impact travel and road
conditions in Northwest Pennsylvania on Friday Night-Saturday, December 18-19,
2015.
*Weather Hazards:
Lake Effect Snow Accumulations of 3 to 6+ inches along and to the north of
U.S. Route 6; localized higher amounts of 8+ inches possible in the most
persistent snow bands.
*Timing:
Snow starts: 7-10 pm Friday
Heaviest snow: midnight - 12 pm Saturday
Snow ends: Saturday night
*Impacts:
Hazardous travel and road conditions
Localized, Rapid snow accumulation and sharply reduced visibility
*Confidence:
High or Near-certain
