Thanks for your response.
I bought a roof-mount magnetic antenna, so I can try (monitoring only) on my
driving trip.
Would you (the club) have some frequencies I could enter in my Boafeng
UV+5R?
I'm just anxious to monitor channels until I can get started with TVARC and
get my license.

Thanks for finding us. You are certainly welcome to attend our meetings. How
long have you been here in TV? 

Needless (and sadly) to say, you just missed a 3 week Saturday morning
classes for the Technician class license, and this was followed by a test
session on 3/25, where 7 of 9 candidates successfully acquired their new
Technician license.

 

There is a retail outlet in Orlando (I think). Elsewise, you can order what
you need on Amazon, or other places online. On our web site using the
navigation menu "RESOURCES > Links", and you will see links to various
sellers half way down the page on the right side. You may as well buy a
mobile antenna that can be used once you get your license.

I'm anxious to get started in ham radio, so I'll start coming to your
meetings.
In the meantime, I have a Boefeng UV-5R. I'm going on a (month-long) driving
trip. Can anybody tell me if there's a local source where I could buy a
magnetic (rooftop) antenna for just monitoring?
I'll have to get my Technician license later.
I just thought it would be fun to listen to ham channels while traveling.
Any ideas will be welcome, but I'll have to get really serious when I return
from my trip.
