I believe those limits are for sent and receive.
The Hotmail user would never know an email was sent to him and rejected. Of course, the sender would know. Not sure what happens with a reflector – why don’t you try it?

Pete,
There doesn’t seem to be a limit. It is a field that one fills in on the administration screen.
I actually can set it to ‘unlimited’, but this is not recommended. I will happily set it higher.
BUT, one thing I do not know is that if an email provider only allows sent messages to be,
say, 10MB, does that email provider also limit received messages to 10MB? Will that list
member who has Hotmail not receive an 11MB message?
As further input, Yahoo Groups only allows messages of up to 1MB, including any attachments.
So, any input from other folks on the mailman test list?

What choices are there? Can we go higher?
Gmail allows email sizes of 25MB, as does Yahoo. Of the more popular providers, Hotmail has the lowest allowable, at 10MB.
If we can set it to 10MB I think we ought to be able to safely send nearly everything, and based on the size of our universe we’re not likely to get in a Denial of Service attack or somehow tie up the server.

Hi testers of the mailman.qth.net list,
Tony’s recent message regarding the agenda for the next board meeting got held up
by mailman and forwarded to me (the administrator) to deal with. It got held up because
the maximum message size was set to 40k bytes. Tony’s message was 600k bytes. Of
course I released the message. After chatting with Rich (ND4G) at Radio Rodeo, I went
ahead just now and increased our message size to 2M bytes. We can try that for a while
and see what happens, or if someone has a better suggestion, I am all ears.
73,
George
