Yep, ESK is not encryption but a simple algorithm for the control  
channel which I guess you could put it simply like you already  
mentioned, it comes down to an identifying number. Here's a link to a  
wiki article that can explain it better and more in-depth along with  
links to the Trunker software version that will let you track systems  
that use ESK.
