Hello Trunkcom members;

You have not heard much out of Dave or myself in the
last several weeks. This is because we have decided to
part ways with Trunkcom and QTH.net.

As you know, after he and I discussed the matter at
great length, Dave N8OAY posted a message to the list
exploring the *possibility* of moving the list to
Yahoogroups, and you will recall that it was posted as
an inquiry, only, to the possibility and the feelings
of the membership regarding such a change. We felt
that this change was worth exploring because of the
problems we had been receiving complaints about,
primarily complaints of message delivery problems with
regard to some ISPs efforts to block spam. Some ISPs
even block messages from QTH.net entirely. We also
wished to have the capability to store files (regional
files for programs like Win92/95/96, Butel products
and the like) for the membership to share. Finally,
Yahoogroups are much easier to administer.

The messages Dave and I received in response were more
than 2:1 in favor of the move.

Shortly (a day or so) after Dave posted the message
merely mentioning the *possibility* of moving to Yahoo
groups, we discovered that our access to the group had
been blocked. When Dave enquired of Tim (the System
Admin of QTH.NET) as to the problem, he was told in no
uncertain terms that Al Waller (owner of QSL/QTH) was
absolutely opposed to moving any public list to
another server and that we had been blocked to prevent
us doing so.

Tim then added insult to injury by insinuating that we
would disrupt the list, or even hijack the membership
list, move it to Yahoo, and shut the QTH list down.

This action was taken unilaterally on Tim's part (with
Al's later concurrence), and with absolutely no effort
whatsoever on their part to contact us first to
ascertain the reason for our consideration of moving
the list, or any attempt to explain Al's feelings on
the matter. It was only after Tim was asked why we
could not access the admin interface for the list that
we were told.

After contacting Al in an attempt to cordially resolve
the impasse, the result was the same. Al's response,
too, was the same: the list isn't leaving QTH. Even
though we had only explored the mere possibility of
moving the list, and attempted to resolve the
situation amicably, our access remained blocked.

It was at that point that we decided to part ways with
QTH.net completely. Over the years we have served as
Trunkcom admins, we have had to put up with a lot, as
well as taking our valuable time to monitor the list.
We did it as a labor of love and dedication to the
hobby, with no thought of compansation or recognition.
However, the draconian attitude of both Al and Tim,
and their insulting and heavy-handed actions with no
attempt whatsoever to resolve the situation amicably,
made us decide that we could not remain associated
with QTH.net any longer.

I would therefore like to pass along our farewells to
the group, and our best wishes to everyone for the
future.

Tom WA8PYR
