Brian & Tom, Direct Connect IS the most used feature of the Nextel service. 
We have several in our family, lots of friends have them and dozens of police 
and fire depts in the Chicagoland area (not to mention thousands of businesses) 
use them heavily. If Nextel drops that feature (not likely) or changes the 
protocol to something less efficient, they will in effect cut their own throats. 
Direct Connect needs to get BETTER (voice quality), not worse and coverage 
can still use some improvement.
