Stattus bits are NOT talkgroups. They only "appear" as different
talkgroups on first-generation trunking scanners due to the conversion
they used going from hex to decimal (hex to decimal times 16). Convert
hex 103 to Uniden decimal, you get 4144, but the scanners treated the
status bit as part of the talkgroup and thus would see hex 1030 instead
of 103. When the status bit was activated (say for example emergency
button pressed), the scanner sees hex 1032, the 103 being the actual
talkgroup and the 2 being the status bit. Convert 103 to decimal, you
get 4144, but convert 1032 to decimal, you get 4146, and the scanner
thinks it's seeing a different talkgroup. THANKFULLY they resolved this
with the second generation by including the status bit feature which
allows you to ignores the status bits and treat them all as part of the
same talkgroup (just like the real radios do).
