Subject: [scan_michigan] More on Ingham Co...

This is an interesting editorial on the Ingham Co 400MHz analog system being
proposed by Tyco and recommended as better than Motorola's system by the 911
advisory committee... I can understand having concerns about Tyco M/A-COM,
but one paragraph caught my eye.

http://www.lsj.com/opinions/editorials/030123eds1_(ing_911).html

"Tyco: Whose 911 system would deliver outdated technology to the county,
according to the top information technology official with the Michigan State
Police."

Hmmm. Michigan State Police -- aren't they the ones that built an
all-digital system at an incredibly high price? Isn't that the system being
used by Lansing Fire, and originally intended for Lansing Police, yet now
the city of Lansing is planning on scrapping entirely at a big loss to go to
the UHF analog? Is analog trunking really "outdated technology"? I'm ashamed
that the paper would publish something like that statement without looking
at the background.
