To All;
The law that is in Canada presently states that you can not receive digital
signal without a licence. This was brought in many years ago to try and stop
the GREY BOX SATELLITE DISH that caused some much of an up roar by the
Canadian cable companies. Digital scanners were even thought of back then
neither was digital trunktracking. You can buy the scanner but having the
card would make it illegal, sounds stupid and it is. In Canada you can
listen to cordless and cellular without breaking any laws. With an election
coming I hope Canadians will lobby the MP's to change the laws. I know I
will be getting a scanner and a card and don't really care what the law
states. Good old Motorola is still telling people that there present system
in analog can not be scanned. When the first group of emergency services
went to the 800 freq. they were told then that no one could listen to there
conversation. I was with the ambulance back then and a salesmen from
Motorola came in and was trying to get us to buy the new system and after he
made his pitch he was going to come back in a few days and see if anyone had
any questions on the new system. When he came back we asked about his
statement about the new system not being able to be scanned. I brought out
my RS scanner and showed what I could receive, he said I must have made
modifications to it. When he found out it was an off the shelf scanner that
was the last time we seen him. we stayed on out old VHF system for many
years.
