On another note...

These are big ifs, but if Trunker can handle 9.6 K (I don't remember), and
the new digitals can be computer controlled (not just computer
programmable), that would be a way around the rumored problem.  Let Trunker
handle the control channel, and use the digital as the secondary scanner to
monitor... wallah.  However, this is not much help to mobile users unless
they tug a laptop around.

         I realise we are in rumour only mode here and no one "in the
know" will say anything here - But does anyone know if Motorola have
patents better protecting 9600 baud control channels than they have
on the 3600 baud control channels ?

  I ask because patent and IP issues are the only reason I can see
why Uniden's new scanner won't decode 9600 baud control channels.
Technically if the receiver can decode the APCO25 digital voice
then it has the components required to decode a 9600 baud control
channel so I wonder if they are being prevented from doing so by legal
problems - Comments anyone ?
