That brings up another point, how many years have you heard that your
digital trunked systems are supposed to last? Here in Grosse Pointe, some
of the officials thought 20 years or so, but I don't know what will come
after that. Our old VHF high system lasted about 50 years. In fact, I
think that the radio shop with that system, and now the trunked system is
now was added onto the building just for the purpose of having an on site
radio shop that was centralized. Before the VHF system they worked on AM
here in Grosse Pointe, and that lasted only 10 years, and the facilities
for that are long gone and replaced by houses and my old high school.
There's no talk about us using the 9600 BAUD control channel, but
that could also come soon. Right now I think that the only thing that is
in the works are the reorganization of talk groups so the six cities on
our system can talk at the same time, and not hear one another unless it
is an emergency.
