Hi Folks!
We had a great weekend up at Camp Turrell this past weekend! The Patrols
worked well together and had a great time!
Cooking and eating were the dominant activities, along with some Webelos
skills presented by Mr. Curtin, and the Wittlin' Chip/Tot 'n Chip skills
presented by the more experienced Scouts to the other Scouts and Webelos.
The cooking will be applied to their progress for various rank advancements
and will also help them with the cooking aspects of the Cooking and Camp
Merit Badges which they will be working on over the next few months.
We took a short hike up the Yellow Trail from the Camp Kluge side of Camp
Turrell to the top of the mountain. The steep side going up had about a
foot of crusty snow that was a serious challenge to navigate! Once over the
top, we headed down the other side on a more active portion of the trail and
both the footing and the slope were a lot easier, but then we turned around
and had to navigate the steep side with the deep crusty snow while going
back down! All got back just fine!
The Webelos were well integrated into the Boy Scout Patrols led by Reiner,
Sam and Sergio. Eddy Slaughter was the acting Senior Patrol Leader and he
did a great job keeping everything on track. Eddy, Alex, Eddie and Jeremy
even got some work done on the Personal Management Merit Badge!
The Webelos bridging into the Troop in a few weeks are welcome (AND SHOULD)
attend the Troop meetings on Tuesdays from 7:00 - 9:00 PM. This will make
their transition to Boy Scouting easier and also help them decide which
Patrol in the Troop they will join. Troop parents and I will be available
to answer any questions for the new Boy Scouts' parents and orientation and
paperwork can be completed at that time. Currently, only a few of the
Webelos parents are on the email, list so please communicate among
yourselves to ensure that everyone get the word on Troop activities. We
will add the rest of the email IDs as soon as they are given to us.
Today, we may be shoveling snow at St. John's. I will send out a separate
email on this, but if you are not able to receive an email or don't receive
one, please call me at the number below.
Yours in Scouting!
Thanks & 73,
Gordon Beattie, W2TTT
