Yeah, my grate will need to be replaced before too long so I will make sure
that it is removable.

I used a rivet forge for almost a decade before I built a bigger one with a
proper cast iron firepot.  I put a refractory brick on edge on either side
of the tuyere and filled behind them with sand.  Without the bricks, the
fire spread and became larger than needed.  Didn't know about castable
refractory then.

I still have the rivet forge and use it as a portable. If I were to start
using it regularly, I would go with a refractory lining.  But the part that
failed on mine was the tuyere.  I had to twice replace the grate over the
air inlet after it burned out.  A castable lining probably wouldn't prevent
that and I'd have to be sure that the refractory lining didn't prevent
removing the grate and the bolts that hold both the grate (on top) and the
air pipe (underneath) to the bowl.
