[TheForge] stubborn rivets

My company makes steel mill rolls and often there is a steel "labyrinth ring" that is "shrunk fit" onto the roll necks by heating it and quickly sliding it over the necks of the rolls. As it cools, it shrinks tight to the roll and lasts until the roll is worn out making steel strip in the mill. Every now and then the operator does not get the ring on the roll neck fast enough or puts it on crooked and we need to take it off. We cut it, chisel it, and grind off the balance - not a clue how you would do it otherwise (and we do it for a living).
Good luck

The Enlightenment led us to realize that thought, unsupported by
observation, is much overrated. :-)

More relevant to Terry's original post:
Take a steel plate, maybe 1/2" thick but infinite in extent. DRILL
a 1/2" HOLE all the way through somewhere. Heat the plate TO RED
only within, say, 3/4" of the hole. Measure the diameter of the
hole. Allow to cool. Measure the diameter of the hole.
Dave Smucker's post points in the right direction, same principle as
straightening, say, a 20' piece of 4" diameter rod by spot-heating on
the outside of the bend.

Peretti's Park Square Mixture. You're close enough, aren't you, to
drive in to Park Square and get some from Peretti's yourself? Doesn't
have any pronounced psychocative effects but it's a good Latakia
smoke. Try Pride of Loch Lomond mixture if Park Square is too bland
for you.
