Even more pertinent to Terry's post.
The size of the hole matters not a bit.
It is the size of the rivet plus any rust attached.
Heating the rivet expands it letting it cool lets it shrink back down.
The expansion 1. would crush any rust. and 2 upset the rivet just a
tag so that it would now be a micron or two smaller than the hole.
