I've been wearing a model of work boots for so long I can't remember
how long -- over 20 years.

They used to be Matterhorn. Vibram soles, lined, insulated, stitched
welt, D-rings over instep, then hooks to the top for fast
lace-up. Steel caps optional.

Then Matterhorn got borged by JB Goodhue. Made they the same boots
under their marque. Then off-shored production to China, quality
dropped a tad but still the best boots I've seen. Then they stopped
production for retail but continued to make them for a single large
customer (a utility or something). My shoe guy got me a pair from
that stream. Then they had a push to clear old stock from the
warehouse and my shoe guy got one pair from his regular source. And
that was it.

After much searching, I found one pair of low-tops in Vancouver that
had probably been sitting there for 20 years. Okay for summer
(although crap does fall into them), save the high-tops for winter.

JB Goodhue has now been borged by Indeka. And my favorite boot is
totally a thing of the past.

So if anybody can find me a pair or two of new old stock, size 12 JB
Goodhue "Oil Rigger" model 07719, with or without toe caps, do let me
know. We can negotiate a finder's fee. I can even email you a pic if
you're really on the track.

It looks like I'm likely to outlive at least one more pair of boots.
Each of my sons has enjoyed a free pair of new boots after I bought
reputable alternatives and found they just destroyed my toes.

Sigh. Sorry. Back to the sandblaster problem....and my tomato plants
need attention.
