I ran into this problem as well.  I think toe caps are only made in
narrow sizes.

A cobbler might be able to partially remove the sole and then remove
the toe cap.  Depends whether it's a true sewn welt or a phony.

I just checked & found a pair I have has real stitching beween the
upper and the sole.  Maybe I'll try cutting some of those stitches and
see whether I can get access to the toe cap.  Later...
