Bruce,

  If this were an actual case of Catholics beating up on some poor Joe to
hide a money making scheme I'd be outraged. But what you quoted was an
article from Slate (not noted for their pro-Catholic leanings) that was a
partial reprint of an interview given by Edamaruku to the* *NewScientist
(not noted for their pro-religious leanings) that was missing a few key
facts. Like the law the Edamaruku is being charged with is from 1860, that
the Catholics are upset with him because he accused them of idolatry, and
of defrauding pilgrims, misrepresenting what was going on there, and more
importantly it is not the Catholic Church that is prosecuting Edamaruku it
is the Indian Government.

What is sad is that someone with such an "open" mind would be so easily
duped.
