I'm going to "second" what Mike just said. I was considering posting a
few similar points, and was hesitating because I don't think this is the
place for it.
First of all, I really don't want our forum to be one of political
debate. I do feel for the parents. One of my children was attending, and
present at the Northern Illinois University shootings a few years ago.
She was uninjured. I both empathize and sympathize with those close to
this. So it is not that I don't care about this tragedy.
Secondly, I don't trust the politicians to address this. I consider
myself a "centrist", and any meaningful legislation has been met with
power struggles, and often to the advantage or profit of special
interests. Just follow the money, either side of the aisle.
I chose not to site any examples, lest the scope of the discussion
expand. I'll hope that we limit the discussion here in both scope and
time. This was a horrible event. There will always be evil in the world.
We can excise it as we encounter it, but the society we want to live in
will result in some loss in the course of identifying that evil. We will
either lose freedom or there will be events where some loss occurs
because that freedom enjoyed by many was exploited by few.
I'll just stop here.
