I'd like to see a discussion here, but I really don't think we'll
change anything.

I agree the politicians should not be trusted with this.  One side
will turn it into anti-guns; the other into anti-anti-guns.  But MONEY
should be made available for solid research on the subject.

I just spotted this in the news:

This is what I mean.  We need to promote research on this area of
human psychology, just as we promote research on cancer and other
diseases of the body.

Then a "third party" organization can make recommendations and
effectively lead politicians by the nose to enact useful legislation
-- if there could be any legislation that could thwart mass murderers.
