That's what I have on my coal forge. And it pops off easily so it's
usually stowed completely out of the way.  When intermittently in use,
it drops down, as PF said, mostly out of the way.

My little single-burner gas forge also stows out of the way.  When I
use it, it goes on a (rather flimsy) rolling tool table I welded up
out of old junk. For it, if a support in needed for long pieces, I
just use a T-stand with a truck brake drum base.
