Hello
To avoid this creosote buildup you could use either the Vermont Castings
or the Yodel stove design, which has a secondary air inlet.  The theory
is that as the flames leave the main burn chamber and go to the
secondary chamber a small amount of air is added to complete the
combustion.  The Vermont Castings use a back panel to isolate the
chambers, secondary air provided by a separate port.  The Yodel has the
horizontal plate, its circular air control has two ports, the upper for
secondary and the lower for primary air.  The secondary air may be added
at the bottom front of the upper barrel.  I am making assumption that
the lower chamber vents up in the front and the top unit vents in the
back.
