When you speak of grants, how much money do you mean? Microloans
might be available, but these are (guess what) small!
If all you need is equipment, then join the local group and
participate. You may find folks with excess stuff to sell (cheap
compared with retail).
Some folks may let you use equipment in their shops. Doesn't have to
be all one-way. You may have "something" to barter. Lots of ways to
skin a cat. Lots of swaps of this sort go on all the time. One of
our members rents a large shop from a fellow who does other sorts of
metalwork, and gets to use the machines in the landlord's shop.
