Greatly appreciate the suggestions re copper tags. Still unable to find
simple, pre-numbered, round, copper tags.
I do have an offer from a friend to punch them out for me. Also, based on
another suggestion, I whacked a couple pennies under the power hammer and that
does make an ok copper-looking tag. I found some old pennies with an indian
on them and they seem to be working better. I punched numbers on them but
that's really going to take a long time to do 1 through 400. Also not too neat in
the alignment. The collection (Tim Kris' in Brasstown, NC) was all
photographed by Nick Vincent and measured, weighed and numbered with Sharpie on
masking tape. An Excel spreadsheet was used to digitally record it all. But now
the collection needs more permanent marking. I really like the idea of a small
copper disk, tastefully positioned on the anvils, stakes, swages, etc., and
held on with a disc of 3M high bond tape. But I'm having trouble getting my
way.
I know I have seen old numbered copper tags on equipment in steel mills,
clothing lockers, electrical equipment, etc. But they are currently eluding me.
Thanks for the suggestions
Don Plummer
