Depends on how much insulation (Kaowool, Insulwool, 
Fiberfrax, etc.) you put in it, 2" and it's no the 
paint won't burn off the shell. It'll burn off around 
the openings  regardless. Personally I'd strip the 
paint and if I wanted it painted use header paint.

Does leaving the original paint on the exterior cause 
any problems?  Will it heat up and burn off?
