[TheForge] Converting a propane tank to a gas forge

It depends on how much insulation you have. Without much insulation
it'll smoke up pretty good, even burn a bit, so run it outside for a
while first.

With two inches of ceramic blanket eventually it'll flake off, but it
takes a while. I usually go for two inches and use a brick pile at
either end. I think the thicker insulation is a little safer in case it
falls over or anything, and seems to hold up better over a longer period
of time. The thinner ones I've had seem to fall apart too easily.

I usually make mine out of air pigs -- just knock off the ends with an
angle grinder & cutting blade. Then line it with a layer or two of
ceramic blanket, throw some bricks in on the bottom, a little colloidal
silica and a top-cote of high-temp clay like satanite and ITC-100.
